If you live out of the area and are considering this position, you should be aware of the many advantages of relocating here. Humboldt County is known for its natural beauty and diverse recreational opportunities. Although we are famous for coastal redwoods and our miles of pristine beaches, Humboldt Bay serves as the iconic focal point of the county’s largest population centers. Wild and scenic rivers suitable for swimming, boating and fishing abound.

We have an exceptional blend of small town quality of life and amenities usually associated with larger population centers. Our health care system is comparable to those in larger metropolitan areas, with three hospitals and a diverse group of specialists. Local public schools and teachers are often selected for State and national awards and we also have an outstanding community college and Humboldt State University. The housing stock offers a unique spectrum of life styles from edge-of-town ranch living, to downtown historic districts, to modern suburban housing. For lovers of art and dining, the region is well known for its breadth of choices and opportunities. And lastly, a description of the Humboldt Bay region is not complete without mentioning its mild maritime climate that never presents extreme cold or hot temperatures.
